Allied Schools Reaches Externship Affiliation Agreement With Nationwide Pharmacy

Allied Schools is now offering externships with its Pharmacy Technician program through Walgreen’s, the largest drugstore chain in the United States. The affiliation will provide pharmacy technician students with hands-on learning experience while increasing the opportunity for employment in their field of study.

According to Terri Hock, Director of Medical Programs and Externship Coordinator for Allied Schools, “The pharmacy technician program is one of our most popular educational offerings. The Walgreen’s Externship Program will create a blended learning environment for our pharmacy technician students.”

Walgreen’s allows pharmacy technician student interns up to 240 hours of hands-on experience during a 4 to 6 week rotation. Walgreen’s district pharmacy managers will work with the local pharmacy staff to provide a schedule that is conducive for learning as well as for training.

Graduates of Allied Schools’ pharmacy technician program must have obtained the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) – Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) national certification to qualify for the externship. They must also have the ability to obtain their State Board of Pharmacy licensure or registration, if applicable.

*Externship placement is not guaranteed. All students must apply to the program and complete the prerequisite criteria before being accepted. Positions in the externship program are contingent on availability at each pharmacy location. Students may also set-up their own externship at any other retail or hospital facility. Externship is not available in Florida or New Hampshire.
